  1. What is the difference between natural stone and quartz countertops?

    1. Natural stone (Granite, Marble, Travertine, Limestone, etc.)

      1. Natural product of the earth

      2. Extensive selection of colors and patterns

      3. Beautiful movement and veining

      4. Prices start lower than quartz countertops

      5. Timeless and ever-stylish

    2. Quartz
      1. Maintenance free

      2. Colors are consistent

      3. Some brands made in the USA

      4. Quartz is a GREEN product

      5. Less porous than natural stone (stain, scratch, and heat resistant)

  2. Within natural stones, what is the difference between granite, marble, travertine and limestone?

    1. Granite

      1. Most durable of the three

      2. Extensive color selection

      3. Great for kitchen tops where food, drinks, pots, pans and dishes are more readily used

    2. Marble

      1. Softer and more brittle than granite; chips and stains more easily

      2. Lighter colors available (whites, creams)

      3. Great for bathrooms and non-cooking areas

    3. Travertine and Limestone

      1. Least durable material of the three (water minerals will stain over time; softer stone that is most easily chipped)

      2. Lighter colors available

      3. Very consistent in color and minimal pattern/veining

      4. Unique texture; typically a honed finish

      5. Great for bathrooms and non-cooking areas as well

    4. See our Products page for more information

  3. How do I know what color I should choose?

    1. First, develop a design theme for your room (we do offer design assistance). Some people like to choose their stone color first and match other products like cabinets, tile, and paint to the countertops. Some people like to choose the room coloration/design and tie the countertop color/material to that. It is really your preference, but due to the wide variety of available countertop products, we recommend choosing your countertops first, and then building the theme around them.

    2. Second, choose a material type, natural stone vs. quartz (see FAQ 1 & 2)

    3. If you desire a natural stone product, our sales reps carry granite samples with them and can meet you at your home for the color selection. Or you can visit a local slab distributor (we also have a large slab inventory) and make your slab selection in person. You will want to take samples of your cabinet, tile, and paint with you.

    4. If you desire a quartz product, there are many quartz manufactures with great websites that you can make a color determination from. We also carry many samples of quartz products in our showroom. Our sales reps can bring those to your home so you can make a color determination.
